THE NO-NO
list
For Pantene fans who want alternatives that are free from specific ingredients, we have created formulas that are made with zero sulphates, parabens, or silicones—yet still deliver great hair.
silicone free
Derived from silica, one of the most common elements in the earth’s crust, silicone has been taming hair for nearly 50 years. The silicone molecules that Pantene uses today have come a long way: Incredibly small and lighter than before, these multitaskers moisturise "and smooth hair, and protect it from the damage of heat styling, to leave it silkier, more lustrous, and more manageable.
Although silicones are chemicals, decades of research have shown they pose no threat to hair’s health (in fact they’ve been proven to make hair healthier and stronger); and Pantene always makes sure to use silicones in precisely-calibrated concentrations.
Still, some people find that silicones feel too heavy, or even lead to build-up. This is largely dependent on hair texture: Hair that is bleached, curly, or frizz-prone is often at its best with the potent smoothing benefits of silicone, whereas those with finer hair often prefer to steer clear of it. Pantene has created and continues to create "silicone-free hair products "that deliver just-as-gorgeous results. And we’ve made them easy to find: Just look for the words “silicone-free” on the label and revel in the benefits of silicone-free shampoos."
Pantene strives to ensure that everyone has a great hair day, and our range of sulphate-free, paraben-free, and silicone-free hair products will aid you in this endeavour.
paraben-free
Pantene doesn’t think anyone should have to choose between the great hair they love and the ingredients they don’t. Parabens are a family of preservatives long used to extend the life of hair, skin, and makeup formulas, ensuring that products not only continue to do their job for a long time but also remain safe to use. They also ensure that there is no change in colour or consistency or, worse, harbouring the growth of dangerous microbes.
In recent years, as the use of parabens has become somewhat controversial, Pantene has sought out alternative solutions to keep our formulas safe and shelf-stable for a long time. Today, for customers who want Pantene-calibre results with zero parabens, they have a full array of paraben-free hair products to choose from. The majority of our shampoo and conditioner formulas have been reworked using alternative preservatives, allowing you to revel in the benefits of paraben-shampoos and conditioners. The few Pantene products that do still contain parabens use them only in low concentrations that have been proven safe, in strict adherence with the health and safety guidelines of regulatory authorities around the world—including those from the US, EU, Canada and Japan — regardless of where a formula is sold.
sulphate-free
Reading the label has become the norm while selecting hair care products, and those that say ‘sulphate-free’ are favoured over the rest. But, why is there a sudden desire to get rid of this shampoo staple that is known for its incredible cleansing properties, and yes, the luscious lathering? Sulphates have garnered immense popularity over the years for its generous lathering effect and its ability to remove dirt and other impurities without much ado. The result ー clean, refreshing hair that lasts all day long. But, unfortunately, sulphates aren’t suitable for all hair types. Hence the paradigm shift when it comes to shampoo choices.
Sulphate-free shampoos are well-known for their gentle cleanse and nourish and moisturise your hair without stripping it of its natural oils.
